Doll quilt swap update

I received my first swap quilt in the mail today- I was not expecting it as I thought it was a book I had ordered and it was sooooo much better than a book!

I quickly unwrapped the tissue and realized I should have documented the moment, but I couldnt go back! It is a gorgous quilt with a super little snail in the corner! The blocks are in my favorite colors and the back is even great! In the package was also a pack of beads for my next knitting project- What motivation to get back to that and practice!

Thank you Maggie! It is so special, I will hang it on the wall in Cordelia's room!!

I blinked, and then she was 4!

One day at a impromptu stop at a little old fashion bakery that I used to go to with my dad when I was a little girl, Cordelia spied a Doll cake on the display shelf. I told her my Auntie Val made me a cake just like that when I was a little girl. She asked many questions about the cake as we sat and ate our bismark. "Dad, do you think they sell those cakes here?" "Mom, do you know how to make one of those cakes?" " What do you think the recipe is, Mom? " Do they bake the doll in the oven?" "Do you eat the Doll?" And Finally, "I am having a birthday SOON, Do you think You could make me a DOLL cake, Dad?"
I told my Sweets, that I could not make her that cake but, our good friend Kim was a baker of great cakes, MAYBE she could bake one for you! "Mom,....Could we call her?" "Mom, do you have your cell phone with you?" "Do you know Kims number, Mom?"

So, I dialed the number and Cordelia left a message for Kim, who later needed translation- all she could make out was some thing about a cake and her 4 year old birthday party.

The cake arrived- Kim spent many hours on the cake and great efforts to find the right doll. The first Cinderella doll was too tall and the cake went only to her knees.

It was a beautiful cake for a very excited 4 year old! Thank you Kim- she will dream of this for a long time and probably tell her children about the doll cake she had for her 4 year old birthday!

my first quilt !

I was afraid to cut the fabric, but once I had a layout in mind, I took the chance. Then the hard part was figuring out what to sew first and make it look like my sketch.

Here it is in progress- Good thing for digital film- then I will be able to replicate it!!

First block finished! I love this new hobby!!!
I hope my swap partner will like it!

DSQ5--hoping these match!!!

Here is the fabrics I have picked out for the Doll Quilt Swap 5! I didnt have a stash as this is my first quilt, so I expected to just pop in with my note book and quickly pick out a few fabrics.

Well, 2 hours later I was still looking for an inspiration piece! It was a bit overwelming to say the least( But very fun!)
My daughter helped me pick out the quilt fabrics and she is quite good at it! When in doubt ask a 4 year old!

The wavy pattern was my inspiration for my partner who likes bold and vivids :O) I sure hope they like it! Now for the scary part... cutting!

I have searched many patterns and layouts online and found a few magazines... but not being able to decide on one design, I ended up sketching out a design that combines a few ideas I liked.
My Youngest went to bed for the last time as a 3 year old...................Good night, Sweetie, I will see you in the morning........when you are 4! Where does the time go!

Doll Quilt 5 swap...has begun!

I got my secret swap partner today-I am so excited but now very nervous that my inexperience in quilting will show. Maybe I will attempt 2 quilts simultaneously hoping the mistakes will be on the practice quilt! Best laid plans....
I am going shopping for material Friday, drawing plans, and virtual shopping.... so many options, so little time!
Work in progress posts are coming soon!

Musty, Rusty Musing

I have lurked the blog world all summer, and have now taken the plunge! I have loved expanding my horizons, following friends journeys abroad, and even learned to knit through a blog! I guess the internet can be an amazing tool!
So, with that said, I start another learning adventure: Quilts and I am starting SMALL: doll SIze ! With my spare hour between 1am and 2 am, I will enter my first Doll Quilt swap! The Flicker group looks great and swap # 5 started today.
I cant wait to great the creativity back into my life, play with fabrics and "meet" new friends! I hope they are patient with me!
